
On 21 September 2024, the heroes and heroines was celebrated in style at a prestigious ceremony at John Kani Theatre, Market Theatre with headline performance by the legendary Zola 7. The awards recognise and celebrate the work done by community builders in South Africa. These awards celebrate ordinary South Africans who are doing extra-ordinary things to uplift their communities. Hosted by actress Linda Njotini-Ubobuako. In between the awards ceremony there were different performances which made a night of celebration, fun & dance as the theme was Bring out your best outfits in honour of your heritage.

We had a privilege to have an interview with one of the recipients for the iconic impact honorary award who is Khanyo Maphumulo, is a seasoned South African female singer that was born in the township of KwaMashu in Durban. Being born into a musical family, the talented singer has featured on more than 50 local and international albums. During the 1990’s she toured South Africa, Europe, and the United States with the likes of Jabu Khanyile, Caiphus Semenya, Hugh Masekela, Busi Mhlongo and Mango Groove.

Iconic Impact – honours an icon who has lived and continues to live their lives giving of themselves to others to ensure they succeed in life.
“Growing up I was looking up to late legendary Brenda Fassie, she was my role model, from the day I meet her she made a big impression and impact in my life and career, not to forget the late Mbongeni Ngema” ……said Khanyo
“When I received the call that I will be honoured, I was so proud and excited, especially the fact that I will be honoured at The Market Theatre where my career began, Sarafina in 1998. Receiving this awards it means a lot and it is a validation that I have done a lot for their country, I have played my part and have an impact in lot of lives”. said Khanyo
