On July 27, 2025, the city of Tshwane came alive with the vibrant energy of the 702 Walk the Talk, an iconic event that began at the historic Freedom Park and concluded at the newly upgraded Southern Lawns of the Union Buildings. This remarkable gathering showcased not only the beauty of Tshwane but also its reputation as one of the cleanest and safest cities in the country. Participants from all corners of South Africa took part in three exhilarating distances: a 4km Fun Walk, a 6.7km Mandela Tribute Walk, and an 8km Challenge Walk, each designed to celebrate our rich heritage and the progress we’ve made as a nation.
The 702 Walk the Talk was more than just a physical challenge; it was a platform for connection. Participants engaged in heartfelt conversations, transforming strangers into friends and fostering a spirit of community. The event highlighted the essence of Ubuntu, showcasing the diversity and beautiful spirit of South Africa.

Safety was paramount during the event, with patrols and Metro Police present at every turn. The organizing team ensured that participants remained hydrated, with water stations sponsored by Aquelle and Pepsi every kilometer along the route. Each distance culminated at the Southern Lawns of the Union Buildings, where proud walkers were awarded medals for their commitment to “walking the talk.”
After the exhilarating walks, the Southern Lawns transformed into a lively family day, bringing together participants for an afternoon of festivities. Attendees explored a variety of stalls offering delicious food and beverages, while enjoying stellar performances from local artists such as Zola 7, Jazzworx, and Zoe Modiga.
