Walking for Jozi! Absa Celebrates the People Powering Johannesburg’s Future

Celebrating the people behind the city’s vibrance, from architects of change to unsung heroes

South Africa: Absa is proud to partner with the 702 Walk the Talk 2026 as a City Champion Partner, inviting thousands of South Africans to rediscover, reconnect with and reimagine the City of Gold on Sunday, 26 July 2026.

Starting and ending at Ellis Park, the event will see participants explore Johannesburg through 5km, 8km and 15km routes that showcase the city’s iconic architecture, public art, cultural landmarks and vibrant creative precincts. More than a walk, the event is a celebration of the people, stories and communities that continue to shape one of Africa’s most resilient and innovative cities.

Through its We see you Jozi, Asambe campaign, Absa is transforming the Johannesburg CBD into a living storybook of ambition, creativity and possibility. Participants will experience a city that honours its rich history while embracing a future driven by innovation, entrepreneurship and collective progress.

Absa’s involvement reflects its long-standing commitment to inner-city renewal and inclusive economic growth. Through its partnership with Jozi My Jozi, the bank has invested more than R12 million in revitalisation initiatives aimed at making Johannesburg safer, more accessible and more vibrant. These include the restoration of the Nelson Mandela Bridge through solar lighting, landscaping and public art installations, as well as the installation of 500 solar-powered lights across strategic areas of the city.

With more than 17 000 participants already registered, excitement continues to build for one of Johannesburg’s most anticipated community events. Lopokoiyit as Chief Executive, Personal and Private Banking Pan-Africa, said: “Johannesburg is a city built by people who show up every day to make a difference. Walk the Talk celebrates the resilience, energy and optimism of the individuals and communities who keep our city moving forward. It is an opportunity to honour these everyday heroes while showcasing the incredible potential of Johannesburg.”

Adding to the excitement, Absa has partnered with Mazda to offer one lucky customer the chance to win a brand-new Mazda.
