Kasi Republic brings Kwaito, old-school house and kasi nostalgia to Heritage Day

Zola, Alaska, Mzambiya and Msawawa headline a premium family-style celebration of South African heritage

Kasi Republic is bringing the sounds, style and spirit of iKasi to Riversands Farm Village this Heritage Day, Thursday, 24 September 2026, for a full-day celebration of South African music, culture and nostalgia.

It is a family-style celebration of South African heritage, told through old-school house and headlined by Kwaito. Kasi Republic has been created for i’intanga zethu, millennials and older who grew up ekasi or grew up with the love of South African music in their veins.

The experience is premium while remaining firmly rooted in nostalgia, culture and all the things that made us. It is a space to come together, remember, dance, eat, dress up and celebrate the sounds and experiences that shaped a generation.

At the centre of Kasi Republic is a live music line-up featuring some of the names that helped define an era of South African popular culture. Kwaito favourites Zola, Alaska, Mzambiya and Msawawawill take to the stage, alongside a soundtrack of old-school house and homegrown classics.

But Kasi Republic is about more than the stage.

The event brings together music, food, fashion, dance and nostalgic cultural experiences in a relaxed outdoor setting. Guests are encouraged to bring the family, the kids, the girls, the boys, whoever. The idea is simple: spend Heritage Day surrounded by the people, music and culture that feel like home.

Guests are also encouraged to embrace the spirit of the day through fashion, with isipantsula-inspired looks, township street style and proudly South African heritage fits forming part of the experience.

“Kasi Republic is for i’intanga zethu. It’s for the generation that remembers where they were when these songs came out and the people who grew up hearing this music in their homes, taxis, streets and neighbourhoods. We wanted to create something that feels premium and grown-up, but still rooted in who we are and where we come from.” Says Sizwe Zim of Kasi Republic.

For parents, Kasi Republic also offers a chance to introduce a younger generation to the music, style and cultural moments they grew up with. The event is open to all ages, making it a Heritage Day experience for families, groups of friends and anyone who wants to celebrate South African culture together.

As South Africa marks Heritage Month this September, Kasi Republic puts township culture and its influence on music, fashion, identity and popular culture at the centre of the celebration.

This Heritage Day, dust off your All Stars, bring out your best isipantsula fit, gather your people and get ready to sing along to the songs that raised a generation.
