SABC1 is excited to announce the return of two of South Africa’s talented actresses, Winnie Ntshaba and Jo-Anne Reyneke, to Generations – The Legacy.
The much-anticipated returns see Ntshaba reprise her iconic role as Khethiwe Buthelezi, while Reyneke returns as Refilwe, the daughter of the formidable political figure Walter Nkaba. Both characters bring unfinished business, complicated histories and plenty of drama, setting the stage for compelling new storylines on Generations – The Legacy.
WINNIE NTSHABA RETURNS AS KHETHIWE BUTHELEZI
Winnie Ntshaba reprises the role of Khethiwe Buthelezi, famously remembered as the timid, naive and conservative village girl who defied the odds to climb the ranks and become a successful, glamorous and confident entrepreneur and the face of La Chocolata.
Now, Khethiwe is back — but her story is far from over.
Still ambitious and driven, Khethiwe arrives at a difficult point in her life. The money she received following Khaphela’s death is almost gone, while Sara has taken her child. Desperate to rebuild her life, Khethiwe reaches out to an old friend for help. However, her plans quickly unravel.
Cunning and driven, Khethiwe has never abandoned her big dreams and will go to great lengths to reclaim the life and status she believes she deserves. Yet beneath her determination lies a vulnerable and emotionally open woman who remains susceptible to toxic relationships and manipulation.
Resilient yet fragile, Khethiwe struggles under pressure and can be prone to explosive emotional reactions when circumstances do not go her way. Her darker, raw and self-destructive side emerges when she feels desperate and backed into a corner, making her return one that promises plenty of turbulence.
Speaking about her return, Winnie Ntshaba says, “Returning to Generations is more than an honour, it feels like a full-circle moment. This is the show that introduced me to television and became the foundation of a career that has allowed me to step into many different worlds and portray an incredible range of characters. Yet, through all those journeys, Khethiwe has always remained a very special part of me. She is a character deeply connected to my beginnings, so when I received the call that there was another chapter of her story waiting to be told, as an actor and storyteller, I simply couldn’t say no. I’m incredibly grateful to the producers for entrusting me with Khethiwe once again and for creating the space for her story to evolve. Returning to this character has been both nostalgic and exciting and I sincerely hope viewers embrace her return and enjoy this next chapter as much as I have enjoyed stepping back into her world.”
JO-ANNE REYNEKE RETURNS AS REFILWE
Jo-Anne Reyneke also returns to Generations – The Legacy, stepping back into the role of Refilwe, the daughter of the cunning and politically connected Walter Nkaba.
Refilwe and her father share a complicated relationship, shaped by Nkaba’s tendency to unapologetically use his daughter to advance his own agenda. But Refilwe is no pushover.
Smart, charming, ruthless and ambitious, she has grown up surrounded by powerful men and is completely comfortable holding her own in their world. Having experienced relationships where she has questioned whether men are interested in her as a person or simply because of her money and family name, Refilwe is determined to forge her own path.
This time, she returns with a plan.
Refilwe is equally comfortable moving between different worlds, from connected politicians to disadvantaged communities and even zama-zamas. Clever and articulate, she has a genuine empathy for ordinary people and the communities from which they come.
Speaking about her return to Generations –“Firstly I was beyond honoured to get the call from the production of Generations, that they want me back, you know those are big compliments from a production that worked with you once before, for them to call and ask you back again means they must have enjoyed what you did, but also I am praying that they missed working with me.”
