LAUGHTER LIVES HERE: SABC2 JOINS FORCES WITH BECOMING SOUTH AFRICAN

SABC2 announces its partnership with the Becoming South African 2026 comedy national tour. This highly anticipated nationwide stand-up comedy tour is brought to you by multi-award-winning comedian Vafa Naraghi.

Following a hugely successful run on the 2025 tour, Vafa is back, with an expanded 24-city tour set to captivate audiences across the country from May until October.

Raised in Mahikeng to Iranian parents, Vafa has become one of South Africa’s most distinctive comedic voices, a three-time Comics Choice Award winner known for his blend of sharp wit, character-driven storytelling, and socially conscious humour. Fluent in six languages, including Setswana, isiXhosa, Afrikaans and Farsi, bringing a rare ability to connect across cultures, communities, and generations.

This showcase is his most powerful work to date, exploring identity, culture and belonging. A one-man journey drawing on his experience growing up, weaving hilarious, heartfelt, and some provocative stories about language, race, masculinity, and national pride.

“This isn’t just a comedy show — it’s a love letter to South Africa.  Becoming South African is more than a comedy tour, it’s a shared experience about identity, belonging, and finding humour in the things that connect us. Having SABC2 come on board as a partner is exciting because they’ve long championed stories that resonate with everyday South Africans. This partnership gives the show a bigger cultural heartbeat and allows us to reach audiences in a more meaningful way” says Vafa.

“At its core, SABC 2 is about stories that unite us, stories that make us laugh, reflect and recognise ourselves in one another. Becoming South African embodies that spirit seamlessly across languages, cultures and communities mirrors the heartbeat of modern South Africa and speaks directly to the inclusive future SABC 2 is building.”  Dichaba Phalatse, SABC Video Entertainment Marketing Manager.
