South African artist and business executive Theo Mseka, professionally known as DJ MidTempo, is proving that creativity can happen anywhere — even 33,000 feet above the ground.
By day, Mseka is the CEO and Managing Director of immowelt and AVIV Germany GmbH. By night, he steps into the world of Afro House, Afro Tech, Amapiano, 3-Step and electronic music as a DJ and producer.
His debut 12-track album, Cheza Kidogo, arrives on 11 September 2026 via Tahoe Studios and around 70% of the project was reportedly created while travelling between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Berlin.
One of the album’s standout stories is “Bu Islak Sokaklarda,” a Turkish-language track created entirely during a flight at approximately 33,000 feet.
The album also keeps South Africa close to its heart, featuring collaborations with artists including Deestar ZA, Luvintage, K.D.M Luminous, August Muzika, Wade Yarrow, Maijor Habe, Kamza HeavyPoint, Yarah Lerah, NATASHA MD, Rocktea and Still Matah.
Tracks such as “Zimbali,” “Nobody Else,” “Sabela,” “Zaka” and “Durban Nights” showcase DJ MidTempo’s connection to Africa’s evolving electronic music scene.
Through Tahoe Studios, Mseka is also focused on creating opportunities for African talent and taking African sounds to global audiences.
With Cheza Kidogo, DJ MidTempo is bringing together two worlds the boardroom and the dancefloor, Johannesburg and Berlin, business and music.
And sometimes, the next big idea starts at 33,000 feet.
